The Clocktower enables visitors to ‘climb back through time’, discovering the history of both Trinity and Tunbridge Wells as you ascend. On each level of the tower, exhibitions and interactive elements tell the story of our iconic local building – and the community which has always been at its centre – from its beginnings as the town’s first parish church in the 1820s, to the theatre it is today.
At the top you will be rewarded with unparalleled panoramic views of the town.
The Clocktower is now open for the 2025 season every Tuesday and Saturday with 3 time slots available. To guarantee your spot and to help us and our volunteers, we advise you to book in advance.
This special experience is completely free – although we will rely on your donations to keep it that way, so please do give whatever you can either at the checkout during your online booking or at a donation station at Trinity. The renovations to the tower have been made possible by funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the National Lottery players – please take a bow if you have ever bought a ticket! We would also like to thank the host of other funders and volunteers that have joined their ranks to make the Clocktower a reality since it was first envisaged in 2017, from Thrive Living to The Wolfson Foundation.
But what if stairs or heights aren’t for me?
Good news: if you would like to experience the Clocktower from the comfort of the ground floor – you can! A fully accessible kiosk is situated in our Foyer which lets users explore the Clocktower floor by floor.
The extra good news is that you can do this on any day and any time that our Foyer is open. There is no need to book the digital experience, but in busy times there might be a wait. The kiosk will be open to the public for the first time this spring.
Please note that this will initially be available with select audio only until later in 2025. If you are visually impaired and would like the remaining information read to you, please let us know.
A note for those hoping to climb: The Clocktower has 118 steps (with the majority of these on a spiral staircase) and unfortunately is therefore not suitable for those in wheelchairs or with mobility issues (although we hope the interactive kiosk tour will be enjoyed instead).
The climb may also not be suitable for those with a fear of heights or with pre-existing medical conditions.
Please ensure that you and everyone in your party feels well and is able to climb independently.
There are three platforms available to take a rest with limited seating, if needed. Please take your time and enjoy the experience at your own pace.
Trinity Theatre's Foyer, Gallery and Auditorium are accessible to wheelchair users and other visitors who need to avoid stairs. For more information please visit our Accessibility page or call our Box Office on 01892 678 678.
