The Endlessly Inventive Life and Works of David Hockney

This two-hour session explores the life and work of artist David Hockney who died earlier this year aged 88. With his mop of peroxide blond hair, round thick-framed glasses and distinctive dress style, Hockney was one of the most recognisable and influential artists of recent times.

Over six decades, the Yorkshire-born Hockney – a photographer and set-designer as well as painter – tirelessly experimented with new media, whether acrylic paints, Polaroids or, ultimately, the iPad, and was endlessly inventive, reinventing himself time and time again.

This retrospective explores the many sides of this former Bradford grammar school boy who, via the Bradford Academy of Arts and, later, the Royal College of Art, pioneered Pop Art and created exuberant, dazzling and diverse works. Subjects matter spanned the globe, with everything from Californian swimming pools, or spring in Normandy, to Yorkshire’s changing seasons; always with a freshness and vitality and dazzling colour.

Dr. Heloise Coffey is an educator and researcher in Art History. Her talks are designed to be accessible and fun; packed with information interwoven with discussion, interactive activities, and high-quality visuals, all combining to bring the subject to life.
