Kindness: A Legacy of the Holocaust
Kindness: A Legacy of the Holocaust by Cate Hollis and Mark Wheeller is largely a verbatim play based on the testimony of Hungarian survivor Susan Pollack OBE, aged only 13 when she was sent to the notorious Auschwitz-Birkenau in the summer of 1944. Interwoven are a number of complementary narratives, including that of Mala Zimetbaum and Edek Galinski whose stunning love story and spiritual resistance is painted across a backdrop of one of the darkest periods in human history.
Voices stands as the only specialist Holocaust theatre for education charity of its kind in the world. We work with a number of national and international partners with the objective of acting as a surrogate human voice for survivors and those victims who were never able to testify of their experiences of the most challenging period in human history. We do so through our unique, eclectic and rich theatrical style with physical theatre and rich musical scores a key feature of all our work.
“I was so very fortunate to be an usher for this magnificent theatrical performance at Trinity. A most moving, compelling production, telling this astonishing story of human Kindness – and its total opposite… The cast were outstanding, everything on-stage had its relevance through such wonderfully chosen and versatile props – the music and lighting so atmospheric. I visited the Budapest Ghetto some years ago – an unforgettable experience. A child survivor led the museum tour – that’s why I shed some tears this afternoon® Thank you for telling this story – I’m sure that these young people will have absorbed so much – and your words about social media and propaganda were inspiring. I hope that the teachers will have important debates with their students. With love and respect for this marvellous piece of theatre.” – Roger, Trinity Volunteer.
