The Trinity Clocktower enables visitors to ‘climb back through time’ through the Clocktower, discovering the history of both Trinity and Tunbridge Wells as they go. On each level of the tower, exhibitions and interactive elements tell the story of this iconic local building – and the community which has always been at its centre – from its beginnings as the town’s first parish church in the 1820s, to the theatre it is today.
Those who reach the top of the tower will also be rewarded with unparalleled panoramic views of the town.
This special experience is completely free – although we will rely on your donations to keep it that way, so please do give whatever you can. Our suggested donation is £5 per person either at the point of booking or via our donation station when you come for your tour. The renovations to the tower have been made possible by funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund and the National Lottery Players – please take a bow if you have ever bought a ticket! We would also like to thank the host of other funders and volunteers that have joined their ranks to make the Clocktower a reality since it was first conceived of in 2017 with particular thanks to Retirement Villages Group who are completing Paramount Place opposite Trinity.
But what if stairs or heights aren’t for me?
Good news: if you would like to experience the Clocktower from the comfort of the ground floor – you can! A fully accessible kiosk is situated in our Foyer which lets users explore the clocktower floor by floor.
The extra good news is that you can do this on any day and at any time that our Foyer is open, and at all times of the year. There is no need to book the digital experience, but in busy times there might be a wait. The kiosk will be open to the public for the first time this spring.
The Clocktower will be open in all weather except torrential rain or high winds – we will email you to cancel if this circumstance arises.
Age Guidance: All ages welcome, though for safety and accessibility purposes we recommend that all visitors must be able to climb 118 steps independently
Warning: 118 steps from the first floor. Visitors should only climb if they feel fit and well.
